In about a year, I'm going to possibly be replacing my 1994 325is.
However, I hate the new body style in comparison. AFAIK, the 2000 is the
last year they made the 2dr. coupe of the old style in the 3series (4dr.
stopped the year before).
Since it'll be 6yrs old by then, it's gonna be really hard to find one in
as perfect of condition as I found my 94 in way back when it was only 3yrs
old, and THAT was super lucky. Got a guy that had garaged it every day,
no kids, no pets, no girlfriend/wife (they get glitter from their makeup
and clothes sometimes), took it to pro German (actually FROM Germany)
mechanic and not the dealer from day one, and even ran synthetic oil ever
since the breakin period. I mean it was perfect, basically new minus the
dust & dirt.
Anybody got any reliable way to find something like that in the future?
There's always massive research of ads, trial and error, etc., but that's
almost pure luck.
It seems to me there might be a way to find cars from a particular year
that have been stored since manufacture, basically new but old.
I'd obviously have to pay top dollar, but it'd be worth it.
I'd pay at least 5k over Blue Book for that!
Any info appreciated, TIA.

Your best bet for this sort of thing is car clubs, and that applies
to any brand. If you check the classifieds for the BMWCCA, you'll
likely find mint versions of any model you want, maintained by a real
enthusiast. Heck, even better, look for someone that competes in
concourse d'elegance competitions - the car will be pristine.
You'll also pay through the nose for such a car.

I'll check that out, thanks.

Yup, I figured that.
Hopefully it's not like 10 grand over book though!
The way I look at it, I could have a new(er) one that I don't like the
looks of as much, or pay alot for a used one that's not that used :)
The current body style of the 3 just doesn't compare to the previous IMO.
Something of a trend with ALL cars unfortunately (except the new Mustang).
Can't think of any other one that doesn't look worse than it's
predecessor.
The biggest disgrace of all is the Corvette. It used to be the one
guaranteed exception to the rule. Looked better each successive body
style since it's inception in the 50's, but they finally blew it with the
last one.
