I'm looking at buying a used 330i tomorrow and have read that you
can purchase an extended factory warranty for a fee if the car passes
muster. How much do these run and should I have the inspection done at
the dealership I'd like the work done at (I'm thinking Perillo BMW in
Chicago, as that's closest).

I think you actually have to buy the car through a BMW dealer and he has to
make it CPO. I don't think that you can get it done on a car bought
elsewhere. However, a BMW dealer in Ann Arbor (Michigan) told me that BMW IS
thinking about making CPO an option for buyers of non-BMW Dealer cars (you
would pay a hefty fee of course).

I don't know that this has happened or will happen, though.

I went to BMW to find out if I could extend the
warranty for my 2002 325ci. They offered me
a 1 year extended maintenance agreement with
BMW, and a third party warranty extension,
not BMW. I had purchased the car from another
(not BMW) dealer.

How much did they quote you for the 3rd party and what was the cost?
