Smartass answers beside, it's a pretty narrow field you're looking for.  I
believe there is one 525iX in North America, probably 2.  How many were
produced in total?  Is it over 10,000?

Just a guess, but I'd be surprised if the only difference between this
and the normal 525i box isn't just the casing and maybe gear ratios
(which will be VERY similar).

My techie runs a 525iX, great car.

I doubt that. AFAIR the front wheel drive is located somewhere in the oil
pan, so the gearbox needs a second cam to deliver power to the front axle.
I suppose the parts are totally different and quite rare.

But is the transfer box unique to this model? BMW don't make their own
gearboxes, so perhaps the internals at least are shared with another.

Exactly. And I was under the impression the transfer housing just bolts
onto the back of the gearbox.

The gearbox is generally fairly similar because the front wheels are driven
aft of the transmission via a chain in the transfer case -- not sure what is
meant by a "second cam".  The back end of the transmission case is different
to accomodate the TC.  The ratios are probably the same, intead they change
the front and rear diff ratios if they are going to change anything.

I would suggest that donor parts for a rebuild might come from a regular
525i but the original casing and perhaps the output shaft equipment would
need to be retained.  A guess though.

Do you need a Gearbox (transmission) or a transfer case?

The transmission should be the same as on the other models, the transfer
case will be unique to the IX. The important part of my post isn't that the
transmissioins should be the same, the important part is that you haven't
quite put your finger on what you need.
