Just wondering if there is anyone on here who is/has
run a bmw with an m20 2.7i engine.

(Basically its an eta bottom end and an i top end, the same
as used in the hartge / alpina conversions).

I'm currently running such a conversion in a 20 year old E28 ... its
running a custom mapped chip in the motronic box, as well as a few
other mods. (Standing waves in the exhaust are "tuned" correctly for
example).

200bhp and 1280kg.

Same power as the works mini cooper s ... but curiously only 100kg heavier.

My 525e currently has the stock top end. What mpg do you get?

28 mpg ... which is "mixed" urban driving within the speed limits.
(My 6 cyl. e32 730i only manages a 28mpg average on a 50mph steady run!!)

You must bear in mind i'm running transmission ratios the same as an E28 2.0
litre.
At lower speeds its probably doing the same rpm vs speed as before ...
although using one gear
"higher"  .... but the gears run out once it drops into overdrive at 40mph
(1500rpm).

Obviously 80mph runs at 3000rpm, which is just on cam, but then becomes
thirsty!!

A proper thrashy run, over 100 miles of motorway, >just< below instant ban
speed
returns 22mpg.

40mph(1500rpm) to 60mph(2250rpm) in overdrive takes this torque beast just 8
seconds, but much
more fun in 2nd gear!!!
