e38 Gear Shifing rough

The gear shifter does not go into gear as smoothly as it once did.  What
might cause of this?

Low fluid level? Maybe you have a leak.

Your reply is not helpful, since it contained no new text.  So I'll answer
both:

Auto:  Fluid or leaking seals.  Check and top up your fluid.

Manual:  Worn synchros or loss of lubricant.  Check your fluid, and/or
change to Redline fluids.

Does this vary with ambient temperature or operating temperature?

Could it also be a slightly dragging clutch, if manual? Had this on an old
Jag XJ many years ago and it was the clutch slave cylinder and also a dry
spigot bush.
