Line 2 bug with T610 and BMW Bluetooth

I have discovered that all outgoing calls made on my T610 via Bluetooth in
my BMW X5 have been billed to line 1, even though my phone was switched to
line 2. This means that I am charged by Orange for the outgoing calls on
line 1, instead of the calls coming out of my line 2 inclusive minutes, so
it is quite a problem.

Does anyone know whether the bug is in the T610 or in the X5? Given that I
paid the ridiculous price of ?689 for the Bluetooth factory option to be
added to the X5, I hope that it's not a bug in BMW's software.

For the benefit of those I have cross-posted this to, Orange (UK) is one of
very few GSM networks in the world that offers line 2, which means that you
have two lines on the same phone, with two separate mobile numbers. Most
GSM phones support this feature, but it is invisible if your SIM card is not
set up for line 2. On most phones, including the T610, you manually select
which line outgoing calls will be made on, and an icon confirms this.
Incoming calls can be received on either line without having to switch
manually.

Not certain about this one Nicholas, all I can say is that using an
HBH-35 headset my T610 used to make calls using Bluetooth from whichever
line was selected at the time. That was when I had one of the R3C
firmware versions.

Do you have a Bluetooth headset to test it with?

I would be surprised if this were a T610 bug, but I don't know the
details of how the call setup is done over Bluetooth.

Another thought is that Lines on the T610 are saved per profile, if you
use a different profile in the car, or it auto switches, then that might
be it.

I believe the same has occurred to me, this past month. BMW X3, their
integrated Bluetooth car preparation (load of rubbish in all honesty), a
T630 and Orange SIM with OVP Virgin L1, Chat 60 L2. I had the phone set
to Line 2 but all the calls I made have been billed to L1. Unfortunately
I cannot test it again since I have had L2 removed in recent days.

Visit www.bmwland.co.uk and search for Bluetooth for the best source of
information on the BMW Bluetooth car kit. However it works with very few
phones and I cannot get it to work with my T630 at the moment. It
continuously says "Please Wait" when I try to view the address book. I
think this may be because I have started to put multiple phone numbers
under one contact. **In your experience, can the BMW car kit cope with
multiple numbers under one contact?** I have a T610 I can test as well,
but fear the problem will still occur.

Another problem I have experienced is total loss of audio during a call.
This blocks the sound system from working too (i.e. CD, radio). I have
to switch the car off and on again to fix it.

I'm going to approach my BMW Dealership with the problems in the near
future, once I have done some more tests and compiled a list. If no
solutions are forthcoming, I may consider having it removed.

Slight tangent:

In general I would not use any of the fancy features on any one phone. The
handset may not recognise them on the transferred SIM card. I mean things
like multiple numbers for one contact (business, home etc). There is (or
was) no standard mapping.

Faced this problen when moving between Motorola and Nokia.

Heaven know if my factory-fitted car kit with cradle, steering-wheel
controls and dashoard display of SIM card contents could handle them. I am
not bohered to try. (It's not BMW but I am sure the principle holds.)

The normal way now to store contacts is in the phone's memory, not on the
SIM card. You can then synchronise your phone's phonebook with your PC's
address book (e.g. MS Outlook), and so when you get a new phone, you simply
synchronise the new phone with your PC. This means you no longer need to
store your contacts on the SIM card, as your phone's memory is always backed
up to your PC.

BMW Bluetooth however, synchronises both the phone's memory and the SIM card
to the car's address book.

I synchronise my SIM card with my PC, using Nokia software. I need
thousands of numbers on my phone.

I see no need to copy to the handset's memory (or store in both) as I
sometimes switch handsets.

What one does all depends on personal useage patterns. So, if one switches
handsets (away from a PC) once wants to keep it simple.

If this is the "feature" I think it is, the issue is the last-number
redialled list.

Lets say for example that you last dialled number 020 12345678 from Line 2.
Despite being on Line 1, you choose to redial from your last-number-redial
list. The phone will pick up the "details" of that call, specifically Line
2, and dial out on Line 2.

Try dialling the call directly, and it'll behave as expected - dialling out
from Line 1.

I could be off-base, but does this fit with your experience?

No, I am not using last number redial. I am dialling from the synchronised
phone book on the car's display, and it always dials out on line 1, even if
the phone is set to line 2. If I dial from the phone itself, then it dials
out on line 2, but the sound doesn't come out anywhere, either on the car's
speaker or on the phone itself. I can receive calls on line 1 or line 2
with no problem.
