I believe 92 was the first year. In a lovely spot being the console.

Make that "behind" the console.
For LHD vehicles.
Open the glove box, pull it fully out towards the seat.
Remove the carpet trim on the side of the centre console, towards the front
of the car.
Against the firewall is the heat/AC control unit, identified by the two
electrical connectors (there are two more connectors on the driver's side,
so don't try to remove it)
Just back (towards the passenger compartment) from the control unit is a
"door". It is secured with two T20 screws, or as early as your car is, they
may be standard Phillips screws.
Remove this "door" and you have the microfilter. Slide it out, slide the
new one in, and you're done.
