Help me!!!! Engine will stall when, putting into any gear, pulling on the
steering wheel, i.e left right, slowing down (once i have got it to move
without stalling) even closing the windows (electric). I have put in a new
fuel pump (right side of fuel tank, no better) where next, potentiometer?
HELP ME Please!

Regards.

So basically anything that puts a load on the engine kills it?

What does the engine idle at? IIRC my 325 TD used to idle at about
800rpm ish...

What has happened to your car recently, any work? Once it's moving
does it drive normally or is it still down on power? If so, it could
be fuel related. The diesel pump might be Kaput or maybe it's gone out
of timing. I understand the pre-95 ones were a bit of a bitch for
breaking.

If you're getting a lot of smoke it could be you're not getting enough
air, blocked filter or intake. Just take the filter housing off and
try it with it removed. Just don't rally drive over gravel or you'll
destroy the turbo fins.

Hi, this BMW is a 1994 model. It runs fine in every respect, but it only
idles @600-650rpm! as you say, it's when i put a load onto the engine that
it stalls. (95% of the time). It is worse when slowing down, i.e when the
engine rev's drop and the drive comes of the engine, it will most likely
stall leaving me to free wheel but still in drive!
Regards...

Hmmm, so it's not a torque converter that's staying locked then, it's
disengaging and letting the engine die.

If this was a petrol I'd be jumping up and down and screaming adjust
your idle, but I'm not sure how to do this on a diesel... The UK
haynes manual and the US Bentley manuals are no use, as they both
conveniently ignore the diesel models. The bentley manual has an
excuse (no E36 diesels in the USA). Haynes on the other hand are just
lax.

Do you have a diesel specialist near you? I don't know where you are,
but I've had all manor of odd diesel behaviour in various vehicles
sorted out by these people...

They've always been helpful, they never seem to mind coming and
sticking their heads under the bonnet of my car in the rain and
letting me pick their brains.

They do pretty much every diesel work you can think of from marine
engines, through huge trucks down to the smallest direct injection
super mini, and seem to have a huge amount of knowledge even on 325
TD's.

The last problem I had was failure of #4 injector (the one with the
sensor that costs 5 times as much as the others). I described the
problem, and before he'd even looked under the bonnet he told me what
it would be, and even told me the price off the top of his head
because I was the second one that week!

Give them a ring and see if you can pick someone's brains.
