How do your auto light work?

I took my 2006 325i into the dealer today to get the auto door lock feature
programmed.  After waiting a week for an appointment I was told this was not
an option for the 325i's.  After much discussion they finally admitted they
could do it.  Picked the car up this evening and they said not only had they
programmed the doors, but their was a new software release that corrected
other issue (couldn't tell me what) that was installed as well.  Took off
and doors locked, cool.  However I noticed my light were in the off position
and I always leave them in auto and before they would come on at night and
go off during the day.  However, I picked the car up with the sun shining
and now when I put the light to the auto position they come on regardless.
Really pisses me off because I'm sure they knew this and I picked it up at
the end of the day so they were closing as I drove off.  Also I specifically
told them not to program the daytime running light option and as I
understand it this option only turns on the two inside lights during the
day, I think.  But, on mine, all lights come on, front, rear, inside.  I
also thought that once the car was stopped the doors would unlock
automatically, but they don't.

Any of you have these features programmed on yours?  How should they work?

Thanks.

I leave my light switch on "Auto" all the time. I never touch it. Only the
running lights work until it gets dark - then they all come on.

My doors lock after reaching (around) 8 mph. You have to pull the door
handle once to unlock, and the second time to open.

After doing the changes, did they give you a print-out of the new car &
key memory settings? You can tell what settings are possible on >your<
specific car and what they fiddled about with.

The light sensor is very sensitive to filth on the windshield, so maybe
do wash/wipe. The sensitivity of the sensor can also be adjusted -
perhaps they inadvertently did this. Otherwise, they might have enabled
the DR setting.

The door locks don't unlock automatically (don't know why you'd want it
to do so), though the locking threshold can be adjusted to different
speeds.

No they didn't.  They told me their computer was down and that they would
mail me a copy of my paperwork.

The DRL's as I understand it are only the two inside light.  When I go to
the auto position, even out in the sun, all my light come on just as if I
had turned them on manually.  I keep my car pretty clean and they even
mentioned they didn't bother to was it before returning it because there was
no need.  I'll do another whipe down just too check though, thanks for the
recommendation.

I guess this is normal.  I'm just used to my Passat I guess.  Doors lock at
about 5mph then when you stop and turn the car off the drivers door unlocks
automatically.

Thanks.  When you say running lights are you refering to the DRL's?  And,
are these just the inside two lights?

Yes. Running lights - the RL part of DRL. Only the two inside lights are on
during daylight conditions. Everything else is off.

Thanks for the response.  Fortunately they didn't program the DRL's.  Funny
thing is that now they seem to be working fine.  Have no idea what happened,
but hopefully they stay that way.
