When I turn off the ignition and attempt to open the front doors, I must
always pull the door-handle twice before the door unlatches and is allowed
to open. Does anyone know what the "thought process" was when engineering
this feature? TIA

If the doors are locked, it takes one pull to unlock, and a second pull to
open the door. Think of it as a safety feature. If a kid pulled the handle
and the door went flying open, do you suppose this could be a problem?

This only happens if the central locking is engaged? You can have the auto
lock disabled if you don't like it.

but then that makes it much easier for car-jackers to open the door and drag
you out (as happened yto me in my M3).

Then the double action to unlock makes sense.

So you can first press the central locking button to unlock all doors, and
then you and your passengers will only have to pull the lever once, saving
untold amounts of time and energy!
