Hartge did a 295mm front brake kit for their E30 H35, it's a four bolt
setup. I have the chance to buy one, but the vendor THINKS it'll need
16" wheels. I'd prefer to run my 15" cross spokes.

BMW E34 525i's run a 302mm disc and can take 15" alloys. So I think I
may be OK.

Any comments?

I don't want the hassle of upgrading to 5 bolt hubs.

It may be more to do with the calipers than the actual disc diameter. I
think the Hartge setup uses 4-pot Brembo calipers. Maybe these are
larger/higher than the E34's ATE calipers and therefore needs a larger wheel
size for clearance? (I could be just talking bollocks of course....)

You may be right. I know they're a Girling caliper and I think they're
similar to one used on some Volvo or other. I've a feeling Alpina used
the same type.

Girling? Unusual for a German firm. You learn something new every day. Mind
you, Hartge do seem to pick the best quality components and Girling do
indeed make damn good brakes..

W108 chassis Mercedes used Girling brakes for a while. And Ate and Bendix.

My dad worked at "Girlings" long enough to design the brake fluid cap
on the GT6.

I thought about buying one of these once, but they're right little deathtraps
for a street car.

Are the rotors easy to get when it's replacement time? I had a chance
to get some old AMG brake parts once. Sounded good. Then I found out
what new rotors cost - haahahahahahah. Uh no.
