The truth is that CalTrans finished the 210 a few months ago and it is open.
YOu can take it all the way through. It's still signed as Highway 30 east of
I-215. You can take 210 all the way to the old Highway 30 portion to one of
the mountain exits... I wanted to say to Highway 18, but I don't know if that
is the quickest route to Big Bear from San Berdu. At any rate, the 210 IS
finished all the way through now. The last portion, that was just completed,
is between 15 and 215.

Hmph. You'd think somebody would tell google and mapquest, wouldn't you?
Last March/April that part was still closed and the detour was so poorly
marked that I suspect somebody stole the signs for some nefarious
purpose. I think it took half an hour of back+forth+up+down driving
before I found the westbound entrance.
Damn hicks!

There is an email distribution list of all Exit Numbers posted on
California Freeways by Caltrans. I'm on that list. So are Google,
Mapquest, and many others in their line of business.
In the November 1st update, Exits 67-73 on 210 were reported as being
changed from Orange Text (indicating Under Construction) to Black Text
(Completed). I'm guessing that, until the map services go out and re-
survey the area, that freeway segment will remain missing from their
maps.

The shortest route is 330 off of 30 up to Running Springs, then take 18 the
rest of the way. Of course, that's the route everyone else wants to take,
too, so it's packed with skiers on Friday and Sunday. Going up 18 to
Crestline's no help. You can also take 38 over Onyx Summit, which is 24
miles longer, but usually fairly empty. The better alternative, if coming
from L.A., is to go up I-15 over the Cajon Pass, and take Bear Valley Rd. to
18 into the back side of Big Bear. It's about 26 miles longer than 330, but
more of it is freeway, and it involves very little winding road once you get
into the mountains.

Living in Victorville, I'd naturally take Bear Valley or Highway 18 all the
way, but people not from this area should know that Bear Valley through
Victorville is a crawl, due to a severe lack of major east-west thoroughfares
through the Victor Valley. That having been said, it still might be a better
bet than up 330...

I've done all three ways, and 330 is the best. No sane person goes
skiing on the weekends or Friday even if they LIVE up there! I don't
know about Monday, I just figure it's as bad as Friday.
REAL SNOW NOW! Maybe I'll go next week...

I take 330, myself.
