Of course, it was the SPEEDING, not the Nitrous Oxide, that caused
this fatal crash...

Tests show driver in fatal car crash had inhaled laughing gas

By DOUG IRVING
The Orange County Register

The driver of a speeding car that slammed into a tree in late January,
killing both her sister and herself, had been inhaling laughing gas
shortly before the crash, toxicology reports indicate.

Blanca Lopez, 19, had what appears to have been a small concentration
of nitrous oxide in her blood, tests found. But because the gas cycles
through the body so quickly, even a trace amount suggests that she was
abusing it only minutes before the crash, according to an expert on
nitrous oxide.

"I'm really surprised, to be honest," that the tests found even a
small amount of the gas, said Dr. Morris Clark, a professor at the
University of Colorado and the co-author of a medical handbook on the
use of nitrous oxide as an anesthetic.

"If it's found at all, I can assure you that they had an enormous
amount in their body."

Nitrous oxide – the laughing gas of dental offices – is sometimes used
at raves and other parties to induce a brief high that some users have
compared to floating. State investigators have caught dealers selling
balloons of the gas at raves for $20.

Police found a half-tank of nitrous oxide in the wreckage of the car
Lopez was driving home from a nightclub just after midnight Jan. 27.
They believe she was speeding, and when her car veered off the road
and hit a tree, the impact was so crushing that it tore the car almost
in half.

I think someone needs to say to them "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG". The Nitrous
oxide goes in the intake manifold not in the driver's nose!

What a waste.  At least they could have the tank piped to the
carbuerator....

Not only that, they just say they "believe" she was speeding.  That's
good enough, I guess.
