A few years ago I started a thread with the title "Cars Blocking Fire
Station Will Be Demolished". Today I was at the same situation, in
heavily congested traffic on Sepulveda Blvd in Sherman Oaks, CA
(northern suburb of Los Angeles).
I was 5th car in line to cross the KEEP CLEAR zone in front of the
fire station when the flashing lights came on, a siren could be heard,
and out came a firetruck. Luckily, traffic moved ahead so that the
firetruck was not blocked.
By the time I got to the KEEP CLEAR zone, cars in the other lanes had
once again blocked the fire station.
I couldn't believe it. Most of the time it's a remote possibility
that a firetruck would be coming out of the fire station; but in this
case less than 1 minute had elapsed since we all saw it happen. And
this fire station holds 6 or 8 vehicles; it's not a small fire station
which is empty as soon as one firetruck leaves.
What's wrong with these drivers?

Good question, but maybe some of them could see that the fire house was
empty? However, if only the truck (and its coupled engine) left, there's
usually a second engine as such stations. However, if you're talking about
Station 88, that's a full battalion plus a heliport, so unless other calls
had the other assets previously deployed, the station would not be empty.
Station 88 is the one next to the LA River and the castle arcade/mini-golf
place, and just up the street from the SO Galleria.
