LA's "Tiger Team" is a group of police/city employees who enforce the
"no parking on busy commuter routes during rush hour" laws, towing
illegally parked vehicles. Now they have a white Honda Civic with
cameras mounted all over it and jammed with computer equipment that
scans the license plates of every vehicle parked along the curb and
stores that information along with the GPS coordinates. It keeps track
of how long each has been parked there, checks for stolen vehicles,
vehicles with Amber alerts, scofflaws with multiple unpaid tickets,
etc. The ticket is $140, the towing is $184, and the storage fees are
astronomical. That Civic should pay for itself in the first week. :)

Sounds like a good idea making these law breakers pay though the $184
towing fee sounds like gouging. Most tow operators charge like $75.

Hey, it's a profit center! What did you expect?
Why is a parking ticket more expensive just because it's issued by a
Honda Civic?

Chances are they aren't city employees, but contractors who get a piece
of the action. They have a profit motive to find anyone in violation of
the letter of the law. They even keep their "commission" if the ticket
is dismissed by the court. Just another "revenue opportunity" for the
local government.
