What an a.s.

Dick Messer, director of the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles, is
complaining about potential legislation that will ban people from driving
with pets on their laps.

OK, let's put aside the potential safety ramifications for other drivers.
His Pomeranian could be the most well-behaved dog in the world, and he could
be a perfect driver. In fact, for all I know, he may never have had an
accident or citation. I'll assume, for the purposes of this discussion, that
he never has.

It doesn't matter. He can control himself, and maybe his dog, but he
can't control other drivers. And if he gets hit head on, the dog is
DEAD. A small dog will not be able to withstand the force of an airbag
pushing him into the driver at 300mph. Plus, Mr. Messer would probably
be more badly injured with the dog sitting on his lap.

How selfish. Obviously the guy cares about driving more than he cares about
his dog, or he wouldn't complain about not being allowed to put the dog at
risk.

I expect this sort of thing in SoCal, where my 3-year-old nephew was killed
by an idiot who was too preoccupied with getting to Del Taco to drive safely.

But I expect a lot better from someone who is involved with the automotive
media (and he is; he works for Petersen).

Utterly disgusting.

There seems to be something about driving that precludes thinking, and
few seem to be immune.

But, this guy doesn't have his job because he knows anything about
driving, obviously, and his employer most likely won't see his
stupidity either.

(I like his other quotes best:
"They want to button down our mobility".
"They want to force you into public transportation".)

I imagine emails of support have clogged his mailbox.
