Need help selecting rear stage spkrs to go with DynAudo 360 Front Stage

I've put a DynAudio 360 system in the front of my car powered by a pair of
Helix HXA-400 amplifiers  (I'm very happy with this part of the system) and
now need to something about the rear; the current cutouts will accomodate a
6x9 or similar sized speaker (I'd  like to stay close to that so I don't
have to replace the leather or do a lot of cutting on the rear deck).  I
will most likely use one of the channels from the second Helix (+/- 90
watts) to power the rear.

Suggestions?

Anything with pretty smooth midrange and subdued tweeters will work fine
without drawing too much attention to itself.  The brand is unimportant.

In my last setup i had a set of mB quart RSC 213 in the doors with 75 w
RMS on them and I made a cutome inclusre that sat ontop of my hatch and
aimed the 6x9's forward the best thing I ever did for that system was
turn that encludre around so it was aiming back.

Realy I would recomend buying a desecent pair of 6x9's $150 tops you
have to remeber if positioned properly they added minimaly to the
drivers perception, they are mostly for the passengers.

I am not saying I would go without 6x9's when I took them out the car
did sound empty, I would just make sure the speaker is not aimed
forward either straight up or back and the gain is low

I have a 360 set myself.  I'm surprised that you are even considering a rear
soundstage.  I had mine set up with the mids and tweets in kick panels and
the 8s in the doors (tons of damping material in the doors).  I never
thought I needed rear fill.

Well, I'll be the minority here and suggest you keep all your speakers the
same brand.  If it were me I would custom make an MDF baffle under the stock
6x9 grills and put a Dyn 220MKII set under there (5.75 mid & 1" tweeter).
Or maybe a another 360 set, minus the 8s...just the mids and tweets.

I totally understand the whole rear-fill purpose.  But if you're running
Dynaudio and Helix, I don't see how you'd be happy in the long run with
lesser-quality rear speakers.

Because , generally speaking, with rear speakers you are listening to a
*reflection* and the actual tonality of the speaker doesn't come into play.
Plus, done properly they'd be so quiet you won't be able to hear them over
the front anyway. IMO spending the kind of money a DYN or Helix set costs
just for rear fill is silly.

Paul,

I see your point.  When I've had rear fill, I like to set the fader so that
you'd never know you even HAD rear speakers.  The only time you'd even know
it is if you were to suddenly shut them off...then you would notice they're
NOT there.

Paul's probably right, that much money on rear speakers is silly.  But then
again, so is $1,100 for a set of Dyn 360s!!!  Me personally, I would spend
the extra money to timbre match the rear speakers, regardless of how little
they are actually used.  Money is no object for my car stereo obsession.

$1,100 is not too much for front speakers.  Hell, if I could afford them I'd
get those $100,000 Martin Logans (I forget the model) that out home theater
store sold.  Verah Nahse!  For car audio I just can't justify spending a lot
of money on speakers you never hear.  Hell, I couldn't really justify it in
a home either.  A center channel, yes, but not the surrounds.

Center channel? What the hell do you need one of those for? Unless your
monitor is set up in a corner, your much better off just running the front
end in stereo. Of course the entire world of audio (mobile or stationary) is
subject to personal preference ...

I meant a center channel for a home since they do the majority of the work.
I would never use a center channel in a car.  I've never heard one done that
didn't sound like a.s in a car.

I was referring to a home setup ... I have AB'd systems with the center
turned on and off, much prefer not having a center speaker, I feel it is a
crutch or bandaid of sorts. Proper location of main speakers negates the
need of a center.

True, but when you're watching a movie it's pretty much a necessity.  I've
heard down mixed systems and I didn't care for them at all.  For music there
is no way in hell I'd use one in a home or car.

I used a pair of Dyn MW160's in the rear once and they did a great
job. You could easily fit a template with the cutout for the 6x9 hole
and use any decent driver for rear fill. I wouldn't put any tweeters
there though. Maybe something like a Morel mid from Madisound would
work perfect if you don't want to pony up for a pair of Dyn raw MW
drivers.
