Prying off the front panel cover

I have a Chevy Silverado pickup. Due to having bought a new receiver,
I will need to pry off the front panel cover. I do not think that I
have a "panel tool" that Crutchfield recommends. Can I simply use a
wide flat blade screwdriver?

You might want to wrap it in tape and be very careful.
