if i buy something from the states... 200CAN value ... what happens
when it is shipped here???  Can custom's keep it?  Does the box get
dropped infront of my house.... or do i gotta be home to accept the
parcel?  (box is about 12"x12"x10") .  Do i have to pay duty on the
item?  If so, do i have to do that when it comes to the door...or do i
gotta go down to a government building???  I have never done this
before...and would appreciate your input.

thanks

Custom's won't keep it. If anything, they will charge you duty (see my
previous reply) and attach the bill to the shipment. If it's shipped through
UPS, they won't leave it at the door without you paying the broker fee (if
it hasn't been pre-brokered). It really depends on who ships it (USPS or
UPS) USPS will also be lower for broker fees.

Depends on the carrier. If it's UPS then they will come to your door
and expect payment in full for brokerage and applicable import taxes
and or duties. If you're not home they will make up to 2 more attempts
and then it's up to you to pick the item up if you miss the third
delivery attempt. I think you have 5 business days after the third
attempt. They won't drop it at your house since they need to collect
money from you.

Pretty much the same thing if the item comes through the mail though
Canada Post will only make one attempt. If you're not there they will
leave a tag in your mailbox to pick the item up from a local post
office close to you where you will have to pay any taxes or duties.

Customs won't keep your goods as long as they are not illegal. I don;t
think subwoofers are illegal here yet....  :)
