hi, I'm driving a 2001 max with a 5 speed. and am wondering if anything is
wrong with my car. it only has 20,000 miles (I got it at 8k) and it only gets
between 300 and 330 miles per tank. I once got it as high as 380, but that was
entirely highway. I always use premium gas and I drive pretty sensibly (usually
not reving above 3k on the tach) should I be reving higher. can reving too low
when shifting have adverse effects on mileage? could it be something with the
car I should check (spark plugs, fuel filter or something?)
thanks

Hmmmm...what does this have to do with car audio?
Anyway. My 2K1 auto Maxima usually gets anywhere around 17 mpg in town and
the mid to high 20s on the highway. If you're getting 300-330 mpg in town,
then that's about right. On the highway, I can easily get 400 miles per
tank, sometimes over 450.
Make sure your air filter is clean and your tire pressure is good.

That's not all that good. Unless you're a leadfoot.

Good advice.

sorry to all about the cross post. I ment that for my maxima group, thanks to
all who responded anyway, I appreciate it. also, to the person who put the link
to the http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/16807.shtml website. I'm not
sure thats entirely accurate, because it says "regular fuel" used, when nissan
recommends premium (91 or better). supposivly it can take 87 or 89, but it will
knock until the knock sensor catchs on, which will stop the knocking but hurt
performance. thanks again all

Please note you have just posted a question about vehicle maintenance to
a car AUDIO newsgroup.
Your mileage will depend on your driving conditions. You're getting 25
mpg (roughly). A tuneup is definately a good idea if you just bought the
car though. Faulty plugs (fouled or improperly gapped) will cause this
kind of mileage creep.

Actually, it's probably a lot less than this. The car has a 17 gallon tank.
If he's putting let's say 16 gallons in when he re-fuels then he's getting
anywhere from 19-21 mpg in town. (My re-fuels are usually always around 16
gallons unless I drive with the fuel light on for a while in which case it's
17+ gallons) On the highway, he's only getting around 24 mpg. In town,
he's getting a little better than I do. However, I drive with a lead foot.
On the highway, he should be getting more, unless he's cruising at 80 mph.
