Question about Alpine KCA-801B and Trigger wire

The trigger wire on the Alpine KCA-801B does it really require a toggle
switch to work properly?

If I wire it in the trunk with constant 12volts DC, will it drain the
battery on the vehicle?

It's a new 2003 Impala and GM would not cover the warranty if I start
messing with cutting wiring in the trunk.

Thanks
Dwaine.

I'm not sure what the "trigger wire" is on the KCA-801B.  A "trigger"
sounds like more of an alarm term, and the 801B is an AUX input
adaptor for a CD changer input.  Not sure what you mean by using a
toggle switch, either.  Are you talking about "switched +12V"?  If
that's the case, then there's not actually a "switch" present - it
just means that the wire you tap into only has 12V present when the
car's ignition is on.

I would advise having the adaptor professionally installed if you're
confused about what connections to make and where to make them.  And
don't worry about the warranty.  GM can not deny you warranty coverage
unless they can prove that the modifications you made caused the
damage that you're trying to get them to cover.

It's on the device.  The device requires remote power on.  I have the
device in my hand.  It's labeled "trigger"

I just do not know if the device consumes power constantly.   That's why
I was talking about a toggle switch.   How did everyone else install
the device.

A professional would have a difficult time installing the device.  It
will be hooked up to my computer which was installed in the trunk along
with my gps stuff.  802.11g and the USB ECM reader/software for
troubleshooting vehicle ECM problems.

Well, if it's a remote power-on lead, then yes, it needs to be
connected to switched 12V, not constant 12V.  It would drain the
battery eventually if connected to a constant 12V.

The 801B shouldn't be that hard to install.  Since it's just an
adaptor that allows you to connect an AUX input to your receiver along
with a changer, the only connections it should need to your car's
electrical system should be ground, constant power, and switched
power.  These voltages are all readily available under the dash or
elsewhere in the car.

Considering you're connecting it to a computer, and not a receiver, I
realize that you may not be using it for its exact-intended purpose,
but it still shouldn't be that difficult.  If the "trigger" wire says
it should be connected to switched 12V, then that's what you should
do.

Hello Dwaine,

What are you actually trying to do?  The reason being is that the device you
have is for sending an audio signal into an Alpine system.  For instance you
are using an Alpine CDA-9813 or for instance my case was sending a Delphi XM
signal into my CVA-1006 via rca rather than RF..  Are you trying to take an
audio signal out of your computer to send into an Alpine receiver that is
also using a cd changer?  If so then you will only want to energize that
blue/white wire when you want the sound to be transmitted through the Alpine
receiver.  If you leave it energized all of the time then it will not allow
you to hear your cd changer unless you remove the +12v.

If you want you can email me back at p.molettieri@verizon.net since I don't
check this message board all that much any longer.
