After months of dithering, and bothering people all over the place, I
*think* I've nailed down the sound system I want to go with.
Car: 2003 Nissan 350Z w/Bose, w/out Nav
Head Unit: Kenwood DDX7015
Speakers: JL Audio VR650-CXi & VR650-CSi
Subwoofer: JL Audio 10W3v2
Accessories: Kenwood KTC-SR902 Sirius Tuner, Kenwood KHD-C710 Music
Keg
Only problem (besides getting the money together) is the amp. I'm
thinking the Kenwood KAC-X650D b/c of the HU amp controls, but I want
to be sure on this. There's not a whole lot of room in the car to
locate an amp, so space considerations are a big deal.
Any amp suggestions? Comments on the proposed system? Bueller?
Thanks.

I dont think those h/u controls are all that fabulous, most of the time
people adjust ther amps' crossovers and filters ONCE. But, if you are
like me and are constantly tweaking every little detail, then I say goo
for it. In my opinion that amp is overpriced and I wouldnt need all the
extra features, and even though it is a 5 channel, it is underpowered
for how much it costs. But all 5 channel amps are that way. If I were
you I would buy a more powerful 4 channel and a class D mono sub amp
(cant go wrong with the JBL (not JL) class D amps) they are really small
these days, often less than 1 ft² footprint) since you are using only
one sub any way - and who needs bass to be in stereo? Good choice of
speakers. Cant go wrong with JL, but there are cheaper alternatives in
my opinion. Diamond Audio (component systems)has some great stuff as
well as Image Dynamics (subs). Might be in the same price range or less
I'm not sure but check out all your options before you settle on one
brand. Most often different brands specialize in one type of compnent
that they make really, really well. ie. Rockford amps (good amps but
their speakers suck a.s) or JL subs (awesome but their amps are allright
but overpriced). Check out as much gear as you can unless you have
already done that. It is 2004 and there is a whole new wave of stuff
that just came out. Go to the shows, thats probably the best way to test
speakers. Good luck with your new system, I hope my experiences can help
you!

I love your proposed system. I really wanted that DDX7015 but, went with
Eclipse AV8132. As for amps, just my opinion, I would go with Kenwood or
JL. You could get a JL 300/4 and 250/1 or 500/1. Either brand would blend
well with your other components. Again, that is just me but, I like the
idea of all the same brands. Just looks good cosmetically.

Hey I am plannign on getting a 350Z this Christmas, but I dont know how I am
going to fit my ED 12A (which wants 1.5cf ported) into the back. Any good
examples of how a large sub can fit?
