I just got my 2003 Explorer and starting to poke around in the interior
before I start my install. Simple question: is the trim panel around the
factory radio (looks like a simulated carbon-fiber overlay) held in by
clips, pins, adhesive, ???? I was able to get my nails under the trimface
and pulled hard, but it didn't budge much.

Yes it is held on by only snap clips, but they are very stiff and hold in
good.  My suggestion is to start at the bottom middle with like a pick tool
and pull straight out.  Once you pop the bottom, the rest give way. . .
