I'd like to use a 3 way component setup in my car and was considering the
Alpine SPX-F17T speakers.
I'd also be using either an 8 or 10" sub in a sealed box with these
speakers.
If my budget for just the components is $600 max, are the Alpines my best
choice?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I'll save you the trouble of reading about 100 ranting and raving posts, here
are the major points:

1. There is no "best" brand

2. The only way to decide what speakers are "best" for YOU is to listen to them
all, or as many as is humanly possible

3. The only thing the people here can offer you is personal opinion

4. Saying you've got $600 to spend isn't a ton of help. Retail chains are the
only ones who sell by MSRP and even they will drop a little to remain
competitive. Shopping at small shops and by internet will save you money, but
internet sales often mean no warranty

Thanks Steve.
It's been awhile since I've posted anything here on RAC(I go back to the
days of McCarty and Zipser battles). I do understand this is all personal
opinion and "taste" when recommending any gear, but thought I could get a
good mix of opinions. My old preferences were the MBQ 3 ways, but they
aren't made anymore as a set with crossover.  I also used 3 AudioControl
EQTs with those speaks, so I was able to tame the tweeter and customize
those speaks to my taste. I want to keep this new setup much simpler than
that, yet hopefully still have a high SQ.

I also don't have any shops around which have 3 ways on demo either, but of
course, they will order them for you...

As for my $600 max, it doesn't matter to me where I spend that $600, so yes,
I do realize that $600 can buy me more via internet... but, I did want to
throw the installer some sales business too. He recommended the Alpine 3
ways.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

Take Care,
merc
