Hello, would anyone know if there is a web location where I might find list
prices on Eclipse CD Tuners?
I will stop at a local shop and ask, but wanted to do some research first.

Thank you

There are a million sites but very few of them will give list price. Try
Google. I can give you the name of the shop my Eclipse came from if you're in
Los Angeles. I got a KILLER deal.

Here are the prices on the 04 cd tuners to the best of my knowledge:

3404 $179(no mp3)
3414 $199(mp3)

3424 $249(mp3)
3434 $299(mp3)

5444(mp3) $449

8053 STill a "new model" for 04...$549

8454 $599 (8 volt, mp3, deck power, NOT BALANCED)

Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for.

The 8053 amd 8454 can both be attached to Eclipse's outboard balancing box that
gets you 16-volts of balanced signal. Either that or you can take the already
high 8volt signal and buy a Zapco amp and a Symbilink convertor (which will
work with any deck) which will also convert to a 16volt balanced signal accpted
by the Reference, Studio and Competition series amps.

The 8454 does not have the balanced outs afaik.

I'm not sure what the 8053 has are actually true balanced outputs either. The
Eclipse box was meant to take the signal out from the 8053 and turn it into a
16volt balanced signal accepted by Eclipse's PA series amps, and I believe will
also work with the Symbilink inputs on Zapco product. However, I've no idea
what makes the 8053's outputs different from the outputs on the CD8443, which I
bought last year, and has in less than 1 year's time been discontinued(!). I've
found the 8volt outputs on my unit to be more than adequate though, and if you
really want balanced output, you can buy a less expensive unit with 2 or 3 volt
outputs and go with a Zapco and Symbilink conversion.

I have the 8053, but I am not using the balanced line adaptor.  The balanced
line adaptor, atleast from the info on eclipse's site, was described as a
unit that would allow any amp to accept the balanced lines from the deck.
It was not ONLY for use with Eclipse amps.

I I am very happy with the deck and am in no hurry to use the balanced line
feature.

The 8053(and 8061/8062 for example), have twice as many RCAs(positive and
negative).

The 8443 was an 03 model so it has been discontinued(as are most decks from
year to year).  The 8053 is being kept as a current model for 04 afaik.

I agree that you can go with zapco/symbilink.  Maybe someday I can afford
some Zapco amps.

The 8443 and 8053 were both brand new for 2003, and both are now gone. Check
the website. Eclipse doesn't usually dump models after only a year. The
top-spec deck before the 8053 (CD8062 I believe) ran for 3 or 4 years.

They have a new iForce line out, but they don't have Symbilink and are built in
a "lesser" factory in Asia. I got my reference series for a song, but I'm
thinking of moving up to an Eclipse PA series of Zapco Competition series amp.

The CD8062 was an 02 model, and only lasted that year(well until the 03
decks were released).  The 8062 may have been available for a while since
Eclipse probably didn't sell a ton of those decks during 02, but it wasn't
considered a "current" model by Eclipse afaik.

While the 8053 is not on the website, it is listed on the 04 price sheet as
a current model(unlike the 8443) according to the local shop.

Yeah, Zapco might be nice.  For now, I am content with my JL amps.  They do
a pretty nice job.

My Eclipse dealer seems to remember it being a current model for 2001 and 2002.
However, when it was replaced by the 8053 in 2003, there were still a lot
around, because they had been very expensive and slow selling as current
models.

I'll have to verify, but AFAIK it's no longer in the lineup. This may be
another case of leftovers. Eclipse's 2003 model lineup was criticized because
their higher-end models needed the Commander unit in order to decode MP3s,
adding expense to already fairly expensive decks. This has been resolved with
2004 models, which all decode MP3s except the lowest model. I'm thinking about
replacing my CD8443 with the new top-spec CD8454 to get the MP3 decoding and
iServe capability. The new AVN2454 looks freaking awesome, and would nicely
fill the 2-Din opening in my dash. But it has very little pre-out voltage so
I'd probably have to get a Symbilink converter.

Steve, the 8062 was an 02 model.  It replaced the 8061 which was top of the
line for 01(the 8062 is virtually identical to the 8061).  The avn pieces
were originally for the Japanese market.  I have seen a few posts from avn
owners on carsound who are very pleased with the deck(not sure which avn
pieces, there are a few different ones).

What you speculate about the 8053 could be correct.  It is very possible
Eclipse put it on the price list because they had quite a few left from last
year.

Yea. Apprently these are the newest versions, released to Japan in late 2003
and for North America this year. The only thing that pisses me off is how
they've seperated the model capability. The 2454 is the only one that does
navigation, but the model below it has an HDD and can rip your CDs directly
into memory as you play them. The base model is really just an am/fm/cd/dvd
monitor but it's the only one of the three with DTS decoding built in.

What type of connectors are in the signal path from HU to Amp? I am trying
to figure out how it is a balanced signal, and I thought there were RCAs
involved somewhere in the chain.
