Ok with the help of two members I have come up with a new kind of sub and
amp for my car system.  And to clarify, as of right now, I'm not replacing
any of my cars current midrange speakers, nor adding tweaters...thats a job
for another day.  This is just a head unit, amp, and sub job:

Head Unit:
Pioneer DEH-P6600 In-Dash CD Player 189.60

Amp:
Sony XM-D500X 250 X 1 mono subwoofer amp

Subs(2):
Kicker CompVR CVR12-4 12" dual 4-ohm voice coil compononent subwoofer

Any problems you guys see now?  Is the amp overkill or underkill?  If you
guys think I can get the same performance with a less expensive amp please
tell me...thats where most of the money is going.  Thanks to those who
helped me before and those who help me now.

PS: is there a way to wire those subs so that i get an overall 2 ohm load?

Well, "overkill" or "underkill" is relative to what you plan to do
with the midranges and tweeters later.  I can tell you that if you
drive the sub amp to maximum volume right now, it will probably
overwhelm the rest of your speakers.  That's no big deal - you don't
have to use the full output of the sub amp right now.

As for the impedance question.  No, there's no way to wire those two
subs together that will give an overall 2-ohm load.

Do you beleive I can get good bass with that amp on a 4 ohm load?  Or should
I look for a different amp?

It's all about what you want, what kind of car it's going into, what
you listen to, etcetera etcetera.  My wife's car has 110W going into a
single 12" sub, and that's more than enough to get "silly with the
bass".  So for her car, I'd say that 250W and two 12" subs would be
more than plenty for "good bass".

I can't tell you if 250W and a pair of twelves will be enough for
**you**.  Only you can answer that.  The best way to decide would be
to listen to several different systems with different power levels and
decide what's enough for you.

In addition, you probably don't want that amp running a 2 ohm load...

If you're after accurate music reproduction, you're going about things all
wrong.  If, on the other hand, you're after a bass-mobile, you're on the
right track.

MZ, I have to agree with you again!

Judging by what a great number of people do with their stereos, in the car and at home, it
is clear they have no idea what accurate music reproduction is.

Do yourselves a favour and just go down to a recording studio and ask them for a tour and
listen to their system in the mixing room. That will clue you into what accurate sound
reproduction is.

Thump, thump, thump and no recognizeable mids or highs is simply a dead giveaway that you
don't understand anything about music or sound reproduction. Amplitudes above 85 to 90 dB
for sustained periods are DAMAGING to you hearing. DON'T do it! No pro engineer or
producer will subject themselves to it because they know it is a direct attack on the
items that supply them with their livelihood--their ears!

But some people like to listen to their sound systems INSTEAD OF listening
to the music.  They prefer to thump around.  Good for them.  I just don't
understand them, that's all.

Yeah, but with sub bass you'll have a much harder time damaging your
hearing.
