I own a '96 Civic (4-door) and I am looking to just get the stock audio items
out. I really don't want anything special, just half-decent sound..mostly for
rock music. No amps, subs, etc. Here is what I was thinking:

Pioneer DEH-P2600 head unit
2 Pairs Pioneer TS-G1640R's 6.5" for the front and back

I am looking at about $225 for all of this, shipped.

Right now, the stock head-unit doesn't even have a casette player, only an
AM/FM radio and four pretty crappy speakers.

My question is this: will doing this upgrade offer a significant sound
improvement? I plan to do all of this myself. I am not planning on building on
this system or anything, its strictly an upgrade from what I've got. I'm
looking for good sound, but nothing spectacular. Kind of similar to what I get
at home from my $200 minisystem--far from the best, but workable.

Would I be better off just replacing the head unit and spending double on a
better pair of speakers for just the front?

Thanks a lot for your help. You guys seem to really know what you're doing
around here, this question must seem so elementary compared to some of the
systems you guys have installed.

Happy Shooting.

what you have planned is a good start. if it isn't enough for you, you can
always add a 4-channel amp later.
