I am thinking of going the prefab route if I can find a nice box that
is fairly small and very musical. I am considering getting the focal
27lux. Has anyone heard it? I would like to keep the price of this all
in one solution below 3 bills so this scrapes in. The polk/momo mm12
does too at sounddomain for 179. Any input on it too? Any suggestions
besides these?

if you are considering the Focal sub please build it a custom box it's worth
the price of admission.  if you're considering the Polk then get the prefab
box.

Are the focal preloaded boxes not designed properly? Why would they do that?

very few of them are up to the build quality of a 3/4" MDF box.  most are
press board, are not 3/4", and are marketed as a "drop in" type of set up.
some that I've seen have butt joints.  why would most companies make a
prefab box better than a custom box, they why would a customer buy anything
but prefab boxes, it's not that they are not properly designed but they
aren't up to the standards of a custom box.
