I'm looking for a cheap bass solution...

Hi all. I'm on a tight budget and looking for a cheap, simple solution
to add some bass to go with the factory speakers in my regular-cab,
full-size Dodge Ram. I'm not wanting tons of bass, but just enough to
add some punch to the kick drum and beef up the bottom end a little
for a good, solid mix. I'm usually listening to metal, classic rock,
electronic/dance, and rap on occasion. I crank it up some now and
then, but I don't ever get it REALLY loud.

I'm not concerned about being able to upgrade later, and, again, I
have to keep the cost down, so I was thinking of going with a powered
sub tube. I'm guessing that going with a passive sub and an external
amp requires other components, cables, etc. and a significant jump in
price even if I don't go all out for the best equipment. Is that
correct? Also, while surfing the net, I came across 3-way mid-range
speakers that cover highs, mids, and lows, with a frequency response
of 30Hz - 30kHz. Since their range goes down to 30Hz, would they
eliminate the need for a subwoofer? Would these be used as a pair and
replace the factory mid-range speakers?

Any help, advice or thoughts on what route I should go will be greatly
appreciated!

the 3 ways aren't enough. you may want to look into one of the powered tube
subs.

I hate to follow up my own post, but while I was surfing the net, I
came across some low budget powered bass tubes by Audiovox, Pyle, and
Power Acoustik ranging from $50-$90 (8" to 12"). Does anyone know if
these are any good at all for a quick, low cost bass fix or are they
pretty much junk that I should stay away from? I'm wondering, if
they're cheap because they would sound crappy with the music cranked
up or if they would just physically fall apart after a while. Oh, and
I forgot to ask, what size sub tube would probably sound best in my
truck (reg. cab full-size pickup)? Thanks again.

Roger
