I have a 1999 2 door Chevy Blazer. I was fairly happy with the OEM stereo
until recently, when my CD player died. So I took this opportunity to buy a
nice Kenwood deck that does MP3's. I also replaced my door speakers with
Infinity 6 1/2" reference speakers. But now, it seems my music is very
'bright'. It doesn't have the 'depth' it had with the OEM system. A friend
said he had the same problem and that the installer wired a small 'box'
behind the radio in the dash that corrected this problem. Anyone have any
idea what this device might be? The model deck I purchased was a Kenwood
MP425 and the front door speakers are Infinity 6002i. I plan on replacing
the 6x9s in the back of the car next and I noticed there appear to be
tweeters in the top of the dash board, but they are not wired separately. In
other words, there are wires for Front right and left and Back right and
left. I guess the tweeters must share the front speakers wires. The
Infinity's replace the 6 1/2 OEM speakers that were in the door and the
Infinity's have a directional tweeter built-in. Advice?? Anyone? help.
Thanks! Carey

Sounds like your 6.5's are wired out of phase. Check your wiring.

That was the first thing I checked...
Everything is wired 100% correctly.

balance your system to the left speaker only, if it has some bass
and then the bass dissapears as you balance it back to the middle
then ONE speaker IS OUT OF PHASE!!

Very common....
Checking the wires visually doesnt always solve the problem, this
balance test will tell ya....

If they are wired correctly the bass will be best in the middle
If they are out of phase the bass will be worse in the middle

There is no bass either way.

The system used to have a full, rich sound. Now its very 'bright' without
much depth.

Is there a device I can purchase that will resolve this? I'd like at least a
tiny bit of thump.

Thanks,
Carey

I'd say you either have:
A) The bass control turned down.
B) Crossovers on the speakers.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the device you seek is called an...
amplifier! They come in all sizes - it is conceivable that there is one
small and serviceable enough to fit in the dash.  You would probably be
better off with one that fit under a seat,  though that would entail more
wiring work.

I found something from Infinity called a Basslink.  All the other subs I
listened to were too large and intrusive. This thing has the amp and sub in
one unit and I think it will fill in my missing bass quite nicely without
rumbling down the road like 'Fast and Furious'...

Thanks!
