AM noise

since I installed a Pioneer 8600 U ,blaupunkt sub amp, Infinity speakers and
a Dayton 8" sub, my Jeep sounds 1500% better than the stock krap.  FM is
clean and clear, CD's have dynamic range and bite.  All quiet as a church
mouse.  No hum, hiss, nope, nothing.

Only problem is that AM picks up interference from power lines, etc.  It
comes and goes, gets louder and softer, varies in pitch (having nothing to
do with engine rpm's).   Is there anything to do about this?  Crutchfield
has filters for alternator noise, etc, but this seems to be external AM.

Is it possible that the tuner is not right?  Any ideas?

Probably not.

The interference you are receiving kind of takes the nature of an AM broadcast
straddling a wide range of frequencies.

In other words, you are receiving the noise the same way you are receiving the
broadcast.

The only way to stop noise from radiating at the frequency you are tuned to is
at it's source.  Of course, this is impractical and borders on the impossible.

Folks upgrading their tuners for the first time will often complain "this unit
is supposed to be so much better.  I never heard this noise on my cheap stock
radio."
And they are correct.
The cure?
Turn your treble all the way down and your bass control about 2/3 of the way
down,
and your new tuner will sound just as good as your old one.

Thanks.  I guess this is why AM is dead except for sports and yak.
