hello, i have an older sony cdx 1300 in my car that has narrowly
averted being torn from the dash and thrown out the window more than a
few times.  the problem is this: it refuses to play certain COMMERCIAL
cds.  it'll make a terrible whirring noise, like it's spinning the
disc at too high a rate of speed, and sometimes this noise will be in
conjunction with an intermittent clicking.  the unit will then give me
an error prompt and spit the cd out.  often, i'll come out of the cd
store, unwrap a brand new cd, pop it in, and have the problem.  in
fact, it seems to be worse with newer cds.  all my mid-nineties and
older stuff plays flawlessly.  i'd say about 1 in 20 of my cds just
won't play in this thing and about three out of the last five new cds
i've bought won't work.  i have an acquaintance who has the same model
and the same problem.  we tried a cd in my car that never works in his
car and lo and behold... no dice.  we had the same whirring, clicking,
and ejection that he has in his car.  other stuff that played in his
car played fine in mine; so it seems that the problem is with the unit
in general and not just with mine.  i'm convinced that it's a design
flaw of some sort, and i'm gearing up to buy a new and more reliable
cd player, but i thought i'd run it by you guys and gals first in case
there was something i could try to resurrect this thing and save some
money.  thanks for you time and your input.

A Sony CDX1300 was like $100 new....yes?

That should tell you that its a disposible item.
Meaning......get a few years use out of it, then throw it out.

It's like a Daewoo, Kia, Suzuki type of car.  These also
are disposible items.  Much more to fix then replace, after
a certain amount of time.

Just my oppinion, take it or leave it.

Try a cleaning disc before you throw it away.  If it works have your
acquaintance try the same.

Bye,
