I had my car stereo stolen so my insurance company will be replacing the
head unit, amp, and door and dash speakers.
When I got the system I didn't do comparative listening because the
complete set of Blaaupunkt components were a gift. The head was the San
Francisco, which had great features so I think I'll get the latest version.
For the amp I had a Blaupunkt PA4100 (4 x 100 watts), which I think was not
the best amp but as it was a gift it was kept. One channel was used to
power left side dash and door speakers wired in parallel , another was used
the same for the right channel, so I need 2 ohm stable. The other 2
channels powered 6x9s as woofer in the rear. No, this is not a system with
slam, but I need the space a box would take, so I accept the deficiency in
loud deep bass. Besides, I never listen to pounding bass material like rap,
or play really loud stuff like heavy metal, so a system capable of extremes
is not required.. But good bass is appreciated. I listen to acoustic
instrumental and vocal, my tastes range from contemporary female vocals to
baroque to classical to Ella to opera, so mainly I'm looking for good
dynamic high fidelity sound.
The speakers were Blaupunkt Overdrive 3-ways, and they seemed fine, so I may
just go with the current 2-ways. But if soemone knows of really great
sounding 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 coaxes I would like to hear about them.

I've used JL XR, VR, and TR 6.5" and 5.25" speakers in numerous cars. I
don't think you can find speakers that will sound as good for the price. I
personally think they are better then alpine/Fosgate, but I'll get flamed
for saying so. Even if they were "as good as" alpine/fosgate, they are WAY
cheaper so why not go with them...that's my logic.
VR600's in my Xterra right now.

Thanks Jason. The way my insurance does it is that they will give me
anything that costs the same as what I had, and I can upgrade to whatever I
want if I pay the difference. They get wholesale prices, so this is an
opportunity for me to step up. The only problem is that they can't get all
brands, so I may need several recommendations to give them.
