Audison

I've been looking at yanking my xtant X603 mounted in one of cars for some
time, mostly because it doesn't provide enough 'oomph' when you need it most
(demanding passages, and that sort of audiophile nonsense :)...) with the
speakers that are in that car; I toyed with getting a Brax unit, but
considering the price tag I decided that they didn't sound THAT good.

One brand that was recommended to me recently is Audison, an Italian brand.
From what I've read on Euro-centric audio boards, it *seems* like they make
pretty good SQ units.  They're competitively priced, and if their website's
PDF files are to believed, have pretty solid specs.  The one time I've heard
an Audison (dunno which one or even which line), it seemed to sound great,
but not knowing the speakers or the HU I was listening them with it's hard
so say how much of that was really the amp.  Plus the car was a demo car for
the shop that was optimized, analyzed and tweaked to the max, something I'm
definitely not likely to do when I do the install myself.  Has anyone in the
U.S. had any experience with any of their amps?  Are they reliable?  Any
enlightenment would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Xtant amp you have, but most people I know would
not be too eager to dis Xtant.  I can similar things about Audison.  They
are very respected.  But I should add that attributing a system's SQ to the
brand of amplifier is very erroneous.  The amplifiers really are one of the
last pieces of equipment to consider when striving for an SQ system.

Apparently, SOME people read WAY TOO MUCH into posts.

While speakers are the most important part of any system, home or mobile,
dependable and clean power is not all that far behind, nor is it as
insignificant as you suggest.

I don't have any problem complaining about ANY amp, regardless of who makes
it, if the unit doesn't produce enough clean power or is short of the sort
of dynamic headroom needed to properly drive any speaker in question.
Moreover, this particular Xtant of mine is not particularly well-suited for
the high current inputs (16V) fed from my balanced-lined HU, without
introducing a fair amount of noise and distortion into the system at
moderate to high volume levels.  So yes, an amp DOES matter.

Audison was recommended because it was cited as making units that can handle
high current inputs cleanly and making gobs of clean power when operating
with a 4 ohm load.  And they have a fairly nice, if a bit cold (to me),
sound to them.  As I discovered with some brands of speakers (like certain
inefficient models from Focal, for instance), not all amps, however good the
rep of the company that makes it and despite the glorious power ratings they
tag them with, make the cut.

BTW, I never 'dissed' anyone.  I merely pointed out that the X603 is
overmatched in my particular setup and it was time to look for other
options.

Hmmmmm....   Ooooooooookay.

Whatever I wrote to piss you off, it wasn't intended.  Just trying to give
advice.  Guess I won't next time.
