All, would it be possible to take the output of an small portable MP3
player into an Amp to the speakers? Is the line level of the MP3
player too low or high for the amp? Is it even fesible? It would be
nice to be able to take my MP3 player with me. headphones are not an
option while on the bike.
Thanks for any suggestions

I have done what you describe before. I used the earphone output from the MP3
player to feed a signal to the line inputs of my amp. That way I had volume
control with the MP3 player. There was no problem with the earphone output's
voltage level. If you have trouble post back here with the make and model of the
MP3 player and amplifier.
