i got a winter beater... gonna be running an el-cheap-o jvc bottom of
the line after market deck.

what would sound the best...

the 1987 ford escort stock speakers
pyrmaid
thump

???

I plan to replace the front and back speakers if i go with
aftermarket.

Will thump or pyrmaid blow....break.... fry..... easily??? or will
they last a whole winter on deck power without messing up on me?

since pyrmaid and thump are dirt cheap...they are my only option.  Is
it really possible that stock speakers from 1987 will sound better
then a brand new pair of crappy speakers???  :D what do you people
think?

Well, you can rule out the car's stock speakers. Even more modern, more
expensive cars rarely ever have factory speakers worth their weight. A good
deck should put out somewhere between 15 and 25 watts per channel, so driving a
pair of inexpensive speakers is possible. Just try to keep the volume low
Low-power situations like this, especially with inexpensive speakers will mean
lots of distortion at higher volume levels. Crutchfield sells Blaupunkt's
PCx652 2-way speakers for $49.99 a pair, a better choice then Pyramid or Thump.
If you buy the deck from them, they'll throw in any neccesary adapters for
*free* and give you free installation instructions.

You can still get free adapters (which you *will* need) and instructions
through Crutchfield. But you'll need to spend at least $39 USD plus S&H. Here's
a pair of Pioneer 2-way speakers with a BUY It Now of less than $25 USD:

They aren't great but they're better than Thump. Others can be found.
