A few weeks ago, I posted a question about Nakamichi headunits on this
newsgroup. A lot of people suggested to purchase other brands, and some
mentioned about how Nakamichi headunits have reliability issues. Well,
I decided to give the Nakamichi CD-400 a chance. Here's my opinion:
The Nakamichi CD-400 sounds extraordinary. The bass, the midrange,
everything sounds superb. The volume goes very high too. I love how it
has the ability to adjust the midrange. The option to turn the internal
amp off is an excellent feature! The modest appearance of the faceplate
is also major plus. I have read many posts and reviews about how
Nakamichi CD players have a tendency to skip. You know what? I went
over a HUGE pot hole, and it didn't skip once. Very smooth playback,
and that was with a CD-RW! Do I have any gripes? Yep, I sure do. I am
very disappointed in the FM radio reception. This may sound like a
minor problem, but it's very important to me because I listen to a
radio program every weekday. The radio station I listen to cannot be
received well at all on the Nak. I tried everything I possibly could to
improve the reception, but nothing I did improved it. My old Panasonic
headunit received FM broadcasts perfectly.
If it wasn't for the poor FM radio reception, I would without a doubt
keep my Nakamichi, but I'm sorry to say, I have no other choice but to
reinstall my old Panasonic. It's a shame, because the Nakamichi CD-400
would have been my dream headunit if it wasn't for the poor performance
of the FM tuner.
I guess I'll have to look for another headunit that is near or beyond
the same sound quality the Nakamichi CD-400 offers, and that can
receive FM radio broadcasts flawlessly.

I strongly recommend the Denon made Rockford Fosgate 8250 available from
www.sounddomain.com.
It is an excellent sounding deck, easy to use, and has the best FM reception
I have encountered.
