i have 2 sony speakers that are 100 watts each that are installed in a
box, and i have 2 12" kenwood subs that have 450 watts each,  that are
also installed in a separate box. the total watts is like 1100 watts, so
should i get a 1100 watt amp? im new to stereo systems , so what should i
do?

first of all....   most people rate stuff in peak power...  rms power is
usually a lot less then peak power...

make sure you go with RMS power on all your measreument you will be a lot
happier...

rms means root mean square and it is a type of average of power...  peak
power is what the device can handle or put out at any one instanace....

RMS is what the device can handle or put out on average over time...

Those are really basic definitions but should do fine for you at this
point...

I dont know if you really have 450W rated speakers in RMS...  if so...  good
luck finding an anp...

If that is peak... then the rms is substantially less then that...

I suggest ALPINE   i just bought the alpine MRV-F540  amp and i love it (i
used it to drive 4  infinity kappa 575.2cf speakers  Which are 100W RMS a
piece)

The Kenwood Excelon series, MTX Amp, Phoenix Gold and Sound Stream also make
good stuff.
