Does anyone know where to find any good information on how to determine
compatibility/interchangability of Ford OEM radios? For example, I
have part F8VF-19B132-AA which is a combination tape/radio player from
a 1999 F-150.
what other year models can be installed and still work properly? I'm
sure a 1998 or 2000 model can be installed and will certainly have
different part numbers. What numbers need to match?
Along the same lines, what if I wanted to put in a combination
CD/tape/radio... then what would the part numbers look like? Surely
there must be some method to the madness?
Thanks.

The one thing you'll most likely need is a wiring harness between the
radio and the Ford connector for compatability. They cost about $15 at
auto stores or other electronics venues (Best Buy, Circuit City, local
car stereo stores).
You may also need a kit depending on the size of the opening for the new
radio itself.
I installed a JVC standard-sized DIN chassis CD receiver into my 2000
Mustang without the need for a kit, but I rewired the speakers and
bypassed the internal amp and harness with molex connectors, something
not recommended for a novice to do...this makes it easier for me to
change my radio out later.

I think 95 and up use the same harness, so as long as the unit will fit the
dash... you should be good.
