Car radio fit (or not) in my car?

Hello, in my car I have a regular radio that I want to change to a
radio with cd or dvd player, something more modern, but as I am totally
clueless at these sort of things, I thought I might get some help here.
Basically my most nagging question is, if I buy online a car radio
(ebay or amazon or any other place, since I'm living in a rather remote
and expensive country to buy it locally), how will I know whether it
will fit correctly in my car? Are these standard sizes or only
particular radio types are going with particular car makes? Is there
anything else maybe that I should be aware of before shopping?
Hope my question doesn't sound too dumb but I'm new at this thing and I
want to learn.

Thanks!

What year and type of vehicle is it?
Depending on vehicle and type head unit you get, you may need extra parts or
may have to modify dash to get it to fit

I good place to go (but sort of pricy to buy from) is www.crutchfield.com
they have a section called "what fits in my car" you can get an idea of what
will fit, get some model numbers and stuff and go looking elsewhere.

What country are you living in?  Many countries do not use the same
frequencies that American radios use.

With the use of a chainsaw anything will fit.
