Is this the factory deck?
When the comes back on is the clock still at the right time, or do you have
to reset it?
Do you have any external accessories, like radar Detector, Alarm, car phone,
that are wired into the fuse box.
are any wires tapped into fuses.
Is your car antenna loose?

His van should have that braided backstrap ground thingy on the back of
the radio with a 10mm bolt, so it is not the antenna not grounding
out...something else

That's why I asked if it is the factory radio.
Because if it's an aftermarket, the braided wire may not have been hooked
back up, where it may be getting ground through antenna connection.
So if the antenna is loose it will lose ground and radio will cut on and
off.
