Could be a bunch of things. If you would be more specific about the noises
(distortion? clicking? ringing? buzzing? hissing?) and WHEN these noises
appear (all the time or when you are just cranking it up) we could probably
help you more.
But I'll take a shot in the dark: it could be "lead-slap" (I actually coined
this term while working at Phoenix Gold, but I don't think it has really
ever caught on). This is when the speaker leads (before they get to the
voice coil) slap on the back of the cone when the woofer is really pumping.
It sounds like a sharp "popping" or "slapping" sound, often confused for
clipping. Within an enclosure, it often goes unnoticed. But up close, it
can sometimes be detected (especially in vented enclosures). I once had a
pair of Soundstream SPL12's that BOTH did this. I fixed the problem by
using some rubber cement around all the connections near the cone. Again,
this is probably not your problem, but you never know.

Could be all the junk in the trunk, spare tire, car jack etc.. or an
ill sealed trunk door. I would line the seal of the trunk with a bead
of window/door calk or tighten the latch, if indeed it is the trunk.

I swear I can hear tinsel lead slap from down the street, ok I really
can't but its annoying when its heard. The main reason I check for woven
tinsel leads.
There were a few manufacturers recently who glued felt pads at the back
of the cone where the tinsel leads were, as if it was expected. Now
thinking back, I didn't hear it on those models.

Well, for my part, I just like the sound of my own voice.

Nick,
Track #2 "Yo Vanilla" off of To The Extreme, it's only about 5 seconds long
and says, "Yo Vanilla, kick it one time boooooooooy!" My best friend and I,
just because we're f.cking retarded, decided how long we could listen to
this track over and over and over again on repeat play. I think we did it
for about 5 or 10 mintues before we went unconscious. That was about 16
years ago and I can still hear it like it was yesterday... *sigh*

Why, I play that song over and over again EVERY DAY. Is that strange? I
thought everyone LOVED Vanilla Ice aka Robert VanWinkille
Jim Carey on In Living Color:
Back-up: What's your real name?
Ice: Robert Van Winkille
Back-up: Why'd ya change it?
Ice: Nothing rhymed with Winkille

I'm guessing that you have one of those flashy square kicker solo baric subs,
square speakers produce square sound waves making the music sound clipped,
unless you have a car that is rounded like the VW Bug. Sound waves should be
rounded and this is why most speaker manufactures make round speakers. Few
years ago Bazooka tried the same thing with a triangle sub, This was made to
produce low sub bass and very narrow upper bass, the trouble with that was
that too many people mounted the subs upside-down and ended up with lots of
upper bass and very little sub bass. If I'm not mistaken Audio-Pipe sells
square to round speaker converters, Ask your local car audio store, most place
stock them.

i took it apart and checked it out and Cyrus and mosfet you were right
because of the dual voice coil and the way its wired the noise came
only when pounding hard and the sub would hit the wire that was waired
from voicecoil to voice coil and that was the problem thanks
