What players would fit a '07 chevy pickup

My stock music player is not very satisfactory to me and I would like
to get something better. The "hole" is about 6x8 inches, give or
take. My question is, are the internal connector compatible with most
music players sold, or are there some special gotchas to be aware of.

I would expect that the in dash mounting location is a standard din or
double din size. The connections are most likely different for each
brand of player but, there are special harnesses made to convert stock
wire harness connectors to fit whatever head unit you wish to use.

Click on Car Audio and Video and look up what fits your car. They also
have harness, antenna, trim opening kits etc., even harness kits that
keeps your door chime working.

Thanks. If I post a picture of the radio, would it help? It is
definitely not the thin 2" unit. More like 4" 2-DIN unit.

Maybe I will just go to a car audio store and ask them what raido
mount I have...

If it's like my suburban was, it's a wierd 1.5 DIN opening. Wherever
you get the new head unit, they should have an adapter that would
change a normal DIN sized head unit to fit the opening and cover the
extra space. My chevy van has one of these.

The wiring will certainly not match up. What happens is that there's a
proprietary connector or two that attach all the speakers and power
wires from the car to the back of you factory radio. The new radio
will have a similar but different connector on one end and bare wires
on the other. Wherever you get the radio, they should have a connector
that fits your year, make, and model of car. This plugs into the wires
in the car where the factory radio used to, and has bare wires on the
other end.

Your job is to connect this connector to the one that comes with the
new radio. Luckily, all the wires should be labeled. Use crimped butt
connectors for this. Then you have to find a bolt in the dash
somewhere to ground the new head unit. Then put it all back together.

The best thing for you to do is go to either Crutchfield.com or
cardomain.com they both ave a program that tells you what HU will fit
your Truck and which dash kit and wireing harness you will need
.Crutchfield will actually give you the dashkit and wireing harness for
free with your purchase of the HU.
