Ignition/Constant Problem

Hey,

So I just recently got a Pioneer deck after living a long 3 months with
a low grade Sony deck. Ive had a problem with both of the decks though
with the Constant and Ignition wires. I hook everything up, color to
color, for both harnesses, plug it in, nothing happens. I connect the
Constant and ACC together on both harnesses, connect with a butt
connecter, and wha-la it turns on. Seems all great until I turn the car
off. Turn the car back on, everything is reset. I've heard that I would
have to wire the ACC to the fuse box, but I was just wondering if there
are any better solutions.

thanks,
Mark

The fuse box is probably the worst place you could go to get power in
an automobile--poor connections and lots of noise to be had there.
It'll work for you, no doubt, but if you have the time and inclination,
you'd be better off running a wire direct to the battery--just make
sure you fuse it at the battery and go through an existing grommet or
rubber boot when going through the firewall. A 14AWG wire would do you
well, especially if you're using the onboard amp (i.e. the speaker outs
on the head unit and not an external amplifier).

Where do you think the factory harness is fed from if not the fuse box? even
with that said the ACC wire does not feed nothing other then the memory. The
amp is fed off the switched wire.

Hey,

Does your cigarette lighter work with the key off, or does the car have a
clock? Any off those will do. If not the fuse box will do.

Sounds like the constant power fuse in the vehicle ay be blown.
what year and type vehicle is it?

It's a 93' Honda Civic. When I had the stock deck in (tape deck) i had
no problems with the radio presets being reset but once i put in an
aftermarket cd player thats when I had the problem. I was actually
thinking today of connecting the ACC to the cigarette lighter because
its only works when the car is on. How would I go about connecting that
to the lighter. I looked at it the other day and there's about 3-4
wires that go into it through a clip.

That wont help you then , because you need the cigarette lighter to work when
the car is off.  Lets make sure that you have the right wire hooked up,
Constant 12V+ = White/Blue on the radio harness. If that seems fine, but not
working you can wire your constant 12V+ off the 'Ignition Switch Harness', the
wire you will need is white. You also have the option of tapping onto the
glovebox light if you have one.

The fuse for the constant wire is under the hood on that vehicle I believe.
The fuse box is near the battery

Im confused now though. If my deck resets everytime i start the car
would it be a problem with the constant or the ignition, to get the
deck to work I had to twist the constant and ignition on both the
harnesses and then connect them with a butt connector. I also have a
small tachometer that is hooked up, could I use wire's running off of
that? Also even though the light burnt out there is a light in the
ashtray but I dont know if it was always on or only when ignition.

If the constant fuse is bad your clock will reset and your presets will
reset.
The units needs the constant to remember the presets and keep the clock
running while the car is off
Captain_Howdy - 24 Jan 2007 21:45 GMT
Your ashtray light should only turn on with your parking/head lights NO GOOD.

The only idea I currently have is that i could splice the constant to
connect to the dome light wires. If only I knew where the wires where?
Or could i just run it from the deck to the battery. My hole through
the firewall is really close to where the deck is so it wouldnt require
too much wire.
Captain_Howdy - 25 Jan 2007 01:10 GMT
The dome light is not a good idea, running it to the battery will do just
fine. make sure that you fuse the wire at the battery.  3 or a 5 amp fuse will
do.
