Floyd Rogers - 20 Feb 2009 23:50 GMT > Bueno, cual es el motivo de un lenguaje tan ofensivo? Hablò mal de su > madre? Carl is not our mother. Our motivation in responding in such a tone is that he is a troll, has a very inflated opinion of himself and his so-called work, thinks he knows more about roads and civil engineering than people with advanced degrees and 30+ years experience in road and bridge construction, thinks his website is the best and most innovative, thinks that his invention of the term "viatology" is worthy of note, etc.
In short, no-one posting in MTR thinks much of him. And we're quite sure he doesn't speak Spanish, by the way, as he would like you to believe. Nor does he speak French, which he has also tried to pass off fluency in. I'm quite sure he doesn't speak Latin.
My Spanish is good enough, and close enough to Latin, to read your post. Sorry it's not good enough to express myself in it.

Yo le contestaria: PRRMARAMIAU.
Sin acronimo.

Not like I get upset about this sort of thing. I rather find it enteraining. It's only the Internet-not like it's real life or anything. It does explain your odd Spanish dialect, though(I'm used to Mexican Spanish).

If CalBog is an improvement, than the quality of posts must be dismal, indeed. I'm sorry to hear that.

Hablò mal de su [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > "SteelFormer" <steelperformance@aliceposta.it> wrote ... > PS Que hable o meno el español es problema de èl My apologies; I believe that my statement vis-a-vis Carl/mother was mis-interpreted by you. It was an acerbic comment of very sarcastic intent playing off the such an improbable vision, or juxtaposition of the works "Carl" and "mother" in such close proximity.
Your sentences translate to me as: "What is your reason (motivation) in using such offensive language [to Carl]. Do you speak like that to your mother?" The second sentence has cultural meanings that might cause it to translate alternatively as: "Do you speak to everyone like that?"
(If that's not an accurate translation, please let me know.)
In any case, I am sorry that you misunderstood me. Some of my problems in reading your text is that your spellings and/or use of diacriticals are not the same as I am used to. It's hard sometimes to correctly discern the intent of Spanish from different countries. For instance, there are currently many students from Latin America from Peru, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador working on J2S visa at the ski area I teach/work at. They all use different expressions and colloquialisms than I am used to in my experiences in Mexico. Sometimes they can't even understand each other.

Hang around in misc.transport.road and/or rec.autos.driving for a while and keep an eye out for Carl's posts (either under a variant of, "Carl Rogers" (sometimes with accents in strange places), calrog<at>gmail.com, or his sockpuppet abda53).
After a while, you should begin to understand why most of us here find him so offensive.
