On i-75, mile marker 70 in Michigan (Troy, MI area), there's a rotating
electronic sign that generally shows traffic info... I've also seen
stupid messages on this such as "If it's raining turn on your
lights"... but today, it said:
"Low fuel??
Fill up!"
Thanks MDOT, thanks a lot.

Hey, some people need to be reminded of this stuff.
There's a permanent sign leading up to one of the tunnels on the PA
Turnpike that says "remove sunglasses." You'd think that would be
obvious to most people, but when you think about it, there's a heck of
a lot of retards behind the wheel...

Alleghany, IIRC, though the Lehigh tunnels might have the same sign.
There USED to be a sign there which said "Turn OFF headlights", but
they removed that, probably because of DRLs.

You'd probably think I'm a retard, then. I've driven through many tunnels
that have signs that read "remove sunglasses" without removing my
sunglasses. Sunglasses are not THAT dark. If they were actually effective
at protecting you from bright sunlight, then driving into a tunnel with them
might cause a problem. But I've used sunglasses costing anywhere from
twenty bucks to several hundred dollars. I've had custom tinted pairs that
are supposed to be as dark as legally possible. NOT ONE of them is dark
enough to make a significant difference in overall light level passing
through the lenses. Thus, they are all safe to use in a tunnel, as your
eyes might as well be naked while wearing sunglasses. There is no need to
remove them. For the most part, I don't even wear them anymore, as they
don't make that much difference. They are not dark enough, so why bother?
But if I did still wear them, there would be no need to remove them for
tunnels. -Dave

I don't think there are laws regulating the tint on sunglasses. I have
owned sunglasses that I would have to take off when entering a tunnel.

That would not be good to remove them if the sunglasses are prescription
sunglasses, or the automatic darkening "photogray" type prescription
glasses.

You know, a picture of the day would be to see a guy on the side of the
road filling his tank with a 1 gal can under this sign!

Maybe Judy controls the signs! If we see one that says "youranidiot"
BINGO!

IF there were any truth in advertising at the MDOT, the sign would have
read as follows:
"Low fuel?? Fill up!"
"We need your gas tax money"
"to pay for these stupid signs."

Here in NJ on Rt. 42 there is one electric sign that sometimes reads
something useful, like "Keep right except to pass" or other laws that are
there for good reason and all good drivers follow but very few in NJ seem to
care about. It doesn't seem to make any difference when it reads KRETP
though. It's always the same free for all as usualy with the right-most lane
being pretty much clear so I cruise along in that lane faster than traffic
in the two lanes to the left.

In chicago, these electronic signs often have useless messages on them.
