Yes.

But if you believe it, I have a perpetual motion machine here you can
buy.

It takes more energy to crack the hydrogen and oxygen out of water
than you get by burning the hydorgen.

For the moment, yes.

Once we have hydrogen fusion power plants and electricity is too cheap
to meter, you're going to see a mad rush to convert gasoline and
diesel engines to run on hydrogen. Anyone who knows how to do it will
make a killing.

Controlled fusion is still in the relatively remote future.

By the time we'll have controlled fusion we'll have
better ways of storing electrical energy and we'll have
purely electrical vehicles.

We know how do to it now. It's certainly no secret. Running an
internal combustion engine on hydrogen is easy.
With truluy cheap electricity, even getting the hydrogen from water is
easy, and *clean* water is a side benefit.

I can remember in the 50's when electricity for nuclear
(fission) power plants was going to be too cheap to
meter....

ROTFL.  You believe in the Easter Bunny too?

There's no such thing as a free lunch, but certain accounting practices can
 result in a fully-depreciated one.

As a matter of fact, I saw the Easter Bunny! Peter Cottontail came
hopping across my driveway on Sunday morning; I yelled out to my wife
"Look! It's the Easter Bunny! Bring the camera!!" but he disappeared
around the corner before she could bring it.

He did leave behind several piles of tiny little brown eggs on my
driveway, however. I guess he was in a hurry, too, because he didn't
bother to hide them.
