While I have my browser open I get a ton of pop ups pouring in.  I do
have a pop up blocker built into the browser like Yahoo, Google, and
AOL for the AOhell browser.  But still, it's an uphill battle.

Are there any great softwares out there in which anyone would recommend
that are effective?

I've been using Firefox for over a year and it's usually pretty good at
blocking them. Plus there are plug-ins you can d/l for Firefox which will
give you extra stopping power.

Thank you!  To both you and the fellow before you that suggested this.
I am using Fire Fox as I'm typing this to the two of you and so far not
a single pop up add.  It's amazing!

I like the pop-up stopper from PANICWARE.COM .  Once you have one instance
of IE open, each additional window is considered to be a pop-up.  If you
want to intentionally open a 2nd (or more) instance of IE, you must hold
down SHIFT or CONTROL while you do so.  For example, if you Right-click a
link and pick Open In A New Window (without holding Shift or Control), that
new window will be treated as a Pop-up and will not be allowed to open.  You
can configure it to make a BOING sound each time it blocks a window from
opening.  There are more features in the PAY version, but all of this is
included in the FREE version.

If you use IE with Windows XP, make sure you upgrade to Service Pack 2.
It has a built in popup blocker, and works great.   The only popups I
get are Flash animations, and technically, those aren't popups (they
aren't in a separate window).  Haven't had a lick of spyware since I
started using it either, since you can set it to block all activeX
installations.

Dont use internet explorer. Use fire fox from mozilla.org.

You mean "eliminating?" It simple. I use Mac OS X with Safari. Safari
has a built in pop-up blocker that works well. I also get the benefit of
no adware, no viruses, and no spyware without any effort on my part
thanks to Mac OS X.
