Though the article claims that speeding is a dangerous activity (it
isn't), it's right on the mark when it says that "... many drivers find
basic practices, such as merging and interpreting road signs, difficult."

You would think that someone would put 2 and 2 together and conclude
that those who find merging and road sign interpretation difficult would
pose more danger than those exceeding the speed limit by more than 11
mph.  Of course, what else would you expect from the IIHS.

Why am I not surprised that Maryland and D.C. are tied for 44th place
in driver cluefulness?  What is surprising is the fairly high score for
Virginia; I guess the non-D.C. areas must more than balance out the
idiots around here.

Other than Virginia, the state-by-state scores actually correspond
fairly well to my highly unscientific observations of the level of
driver competence by state for those states in which I have driving
experience; note the high score for West Virginia.

Bad news: this probably means that my insurance rates are going to
remain high for yet another year, despite a squeaky clean driver's
record and lack of claims.

Well, this study must be pretty accurate if it says that massholes are the
2nd worst drivers.  Don't know how Rhode Island beat the massholes in the
cluelessness test, unless they just happened to test a lot of people in RI
who recently moved there from Massachusetts.

When I lived in Massachusetts, it was GUARANTEED that if I was going
straight or turning right on a solid green light, someone turning left from
the opposite side of the intersection would attempt to cut me off without
even slowing down.  Sometimes, they'd even honk at me if I didn't stop for
them.  fucktards

I'm so glad I'm not in MA anymore.  Cluelessness doesn't even begin to
describe it.  Those who know the rules blatantly violate them in MA.  It is
offensive driving at its worst.  -Dave

What I found surprising is that Arizona ranked higher than California.
But then I took another look at the methodology, and realized that
they only surveyed drivers between the ages of 16 and 65 - all of
those clueless Slowbirds in AZ were specifically excluded.

They should repeat the study with ALL licensed drivers; AZ and FL
would sink to the bottom like they had concrete galoshes.

"Oregon and Washington drivers knew the rules of the road best."

Except, of course, for the KRETP rules... But then they probably weren't
measuring /that/ brand of cluelessness.
