Girl gets 30 days for fatality

BY SCOTT GUTIERREZ

THE OLYMPIAN

TUMWATER — A 16-year-old girl will spend a month in juvenile detention
after pleading guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide for causing a
crash on Cooper Point Road that killed an Olympia man.

Sierra D. Shoopman, of Olympia, admitted to a judge that she drove
with disregard for the safety of others on June 10, 2005, when her BMW
slammed into a parked Volkswagen Jetta belonging to Michael Trotter,
22.

Shoopman, who was just two days into having her driver’s license, was
speeding and had lost control in a bend near 46th Avenue, according to
police reports.

Or at least as long as Ted Kennedy was locked up for his highway
killing.

Sure, no problem. But Teddy first, since he was a senator and used his
political clout to make the Mary Jo "disappear."

Funny how there was some idiot named "Lefty," trolling this newsgroup
claiming something to the effect that women don't have traffic
accidents, and here you post two articles about women involved with a
couple of rather spectacular traffic accidents...

P.S. Judy: "<killfile>," means don't bother replying...

Vehicular manslaughter should be penalised by execution. Period.

Forget prosecuting for posession of alcohol or drugs.

Punish the results.

"Accidents"????  Speeders don't have accidents. They break the law and
cause  a CRASH and thereby murder an innocent person

Not according to Ted Kennedy.

Do note that our resident sh.t for brains apparently can't read nor
comprehend what it does read...

Great observation. I've also noted that our resident sh.t for brains is
incapable of engaging in debate. It gets it's a.s kicked, then moves on
like you would expect from pussies. :-)

Speeders can have accidents. Just because you are speeding, does NOT
mean that you are endangering other people or that when you are in
fatal crash, you are guilty of murder. That depends on MANY factors,
the road conditions, what kind of car you are driving, how experienced
a driver you are, and a multitude of other factors!
If you think that people who are speeding are guilty of murder, what
about policemen who speed and get into accidents while going to the
scene of a crime?

If you don't want people to speed, start limiting the gauges and speed
on cars to the highest speed allowed in the United States, which is
about 75 miles per hour out in some parts of Texas. My parents Honda
goes up to 110 miles per hour, and I always wondered who would take a
car that fast down a normal road.

Too bad that he wasn't riding a bicycle when she slammed into him. She
wouldn't have served a day, probably wouldn't even have gotten a
ticket.

Only if she uttered the magic words to the cop.

BTW, from the article:
"Trotter, described as .someone who could make friends with anyone,.
apparently had pulled over to use his cell phone. It was about 9:15 p.m.
He died in the hospital."

Now if had only been driving while on the phone....

"The BMW split in half. Shoopman and her friend were ejected but suffered
minor injuries. State Patrol investigators estimated her speed to be at
least 60 to 65 mph. The speed limit is 45 mph."

BMWs do not "split in half" in 65mph crashes with other cars. (a tree or
light pole may be different)

I partially agree.  This is a case of an undertrained driver cut loose
on the roads.  Driver training is what is seriously missing in this country.
But the politiciams don't get a cut when you impose more driver traingin.
So instead they prefer to cut these folks lose and fine them when they make
a mistake.  They don't care who many they kill.  After all they can blame
it all on 'speeders'.

This isn't about driver training. This about personal responsibility.
The bitch was behind the wheel and killed somebody through her
negligent dangerous behavior. Period. She is guilty of manslaughter,
and should be punished appropriately. As should all drivers who kill
through their negligence.
Arif Khokar - 11 Apr 2006 04:00 GMT
> This isn't about driver training.

It is.  Had she had the appropriate training with regard to car control
skills, she most likely would have not lost control in the first place.
cyrakis@yahoo.com - 10 Apr 2006 21:35 GMT
I call it manslaughter. Should get the killer a sentence of 3-8 years
for a first offense.
